Read this article from newpaper today regarding having a gracious society. They had a poll, where they surveyed 20 people from each different age group asking them if they could ever see the possibility of a gracious society. The younger ones from 18-30 gave a 50percent yes, 50 percent no. While the older ones were not that optimistic. Seriously, i never believe that would happen. A gracious society in singapore is impossible, not in the near future. Who knows, maybe it might be, a few thousand years later. Look around the train platform in the morning during the rush hour and u will be more convince about what i said. People rushing into trains without allowing passengers to alight first, passenger hogging seats instead of giving it to the needy. Simple thought of consideration and kindness are so difficult to find. Simple thanks and excuse me are harder to hear. People nowadays are just too selfish, inconsiderate and to some others, simple childish. The upbringing in singapore's society is large at fault here. The rat race mentality does not allow people to think about others. Its always me, me and me. I want this, i want that. I want every single shit. Its sad, disgusting even but its human nature at its "best".
Are graciousness really lost in the midst of all the grades, cash and property??
